Step into a meaningful contract opportunity as an on-site Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in the dynamic school environment near Missouri City, TX. Two dedicated interpreters are needed to foster inclusive learning experiences: one full-time at the junior high level (with additional extracurricular activities such as choir, dance, and cheerleading), and one for a period of 6-9 weeks at the high school level. Flexible arrangements are available, including part-time schedules for extracurricular coverage.

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter from either the Registry for the Deaf or TX Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Current Texas Driver’s License
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in school or educational settings
  • Willingness to complete district fingerprinting requirements
  • Exceptional ability to adapt to students’ individual communication needs
  • Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accurately interpret in classrooms, extracurricular activities, staff meetings, ARD committee sessions, and other school-related settings
  • Tutor hearing-impaired students under teacher supervision
  • Assist in managing student behavior and intervene in crisis situations if required
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with classroom teachers about student needs and progress
  • Attend professional development activities, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Keep accurate administrative records and reports
  • Adhere to district policies on confidentiality and attendance
  • Additional support for extracurricular activities, particularly increasing during the spring football season
