Qualifications and Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Hold a valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (as required by state)
  • Previous experience with 1:1 educational interpreting preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities
  • Professional discretion and an understanding of educational confidentiality standards
  • Capable of adapting interpreting approaches to meet individual student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and accurate interpretation between spoken English and ASL during classroom instruction and activities
  • Facilitate direct communication and interaction between the student, peers, and school staff
  • Support the student during various school settings, including the classroom, events, and other learning environments
  • Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and participate in necessary meetings or training
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, special education staff, and related services to ensure student success
  • Support the student’s engagement and inclusion in school activities
