Provide crucial support to students by facilitating communication and inclusion in the classroom environment as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) for the upcoming academic year. This full-time, contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with one student, fostering their access to curriculum and social interactions over the 2026-2027 school year.

Key Qualifications:

  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC), EIPA, or relevant state credentials for educational interpreting
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong expressive and receptive skills
  • Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings is strongly preferred
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to fit individual student needs
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative approach with teachers and staff
  • Commitment to confidentiality in all aspects of student interaction

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for one designated student across various classroom and school activities (37.5 hours per week)
  • Ensure accurate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and school staff
  • Support full participation of the student in both academic and extracurricular settings
  • Prepare for classroom discussions by reviewing lesson materials when appropriate
  • Serve as a resource to the educational team regarding Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility
  • Maintain clear and open communication with educators and administrators regarding student progress
