This contract opportunity supports students in the Northwest suburban area for the 2026–2027 school year, with assignments beginning August 19, 2026 and concluding between June 1 and June 4, 2027, depending on your assigned school. This is an impactful role where your SLI skills provide critical communication access and help foster inclusive learning environments.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in an educational or school setting preferred
- Ability to facilitate clear communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff
- Openness to collaborating with education teams, parents, and support staff
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities
- Commitment to supporting student learning and inclusion
What you'll do:
- Provide comprehensive sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, activities, assemblies, and meetings
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the unique needs of each student
- Collaborate closely with teachers, case managers, and paraprofessionals to support students’ academic goals
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for educational interpreters
- Participate in school-related training and professional development as necessary
- Help ensure all students have equitable access to curriculum and school life
