Various contract opportunities are available for talented Sign Language Interpreters to collaborate with dedicated teams supporting students in junior high and across a district-wide program near Naperville, IL.
Immediate priority is given to a leave of absence assignment running from August 20 to December 18. In this role, you’ll work directly in a junior high environment, ensuring accessibility for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students during classroom instruction and activities from 8:00am to 3:10pm (30-minute unpaid lunch). Additional openings are available for both shorter and full academic year commitments, including full-time positions at a specialized academy and a “float” schedule delivering services throughout the district.
Desired qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certification or relevant credentialing.
- Previous experience in educational or school-based settings is highly valued.
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and adaptability to ever-changing classroom environments.
- Willingness to collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other interpreters.
- Availability to start with a priority leave coverage, with openness to transition into a longer-term or full-year assignment.
Role responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken and signed communication between staff, students, and specialized providers (e.g., OT, Social Work).
- Support continuity of services in the classroom and during service minutes for DHH students.
- Step in as a substitute interpreter when needed across the district.
- Contribute to an inclusive, supportive, and engaging educational experience.
