Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Valid national certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC) or relevant state credentials for interpreting in educational settings
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and speech-to-sign/sign-to-speech interpreting
  • Experience providing interpretation services in schools preferred, but not required
  • Ability to interpret in one-on-one, small-group, and large-group educational contexts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs of students with diverse learning styles
  • Excellent organizational skills, punctuality, and the ability to work independently as well as part of an educational team

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret lessons, instructions, student discussions, and extracurricular activities using ASL
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
  • Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and adhere to the professional code of ethics for interpreters
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure student comprehension and participation
  • Assist with IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other school-related functions as needed
  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth by promoting self-advocacy and independence
