A rewarding opportunity is available for an ASL Language Facilitator or Sign Language Interpreter to support students in an urban school district in New Haven, CT. This contract position runs from August 27, 2026, through June 11, 2027, offering a full-time schedule of 32.5 hours per week. The primary focus will be on providing individualized support in a 1:1 setting, helping students comprehend academic material, enhancing ASL communication, and building their ASL vocabulary.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct ASL interpretation and facilitation for assigned students
- Tutoring to reinforce understanding of classroom content
- Collaborating with teachers and the Director of the Deaf to tailor support plans
- Supporting student engagement and language development within the classroom environment
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Fluency in American Sign Language is essential
- Experience working within a school or educational environment is highly preferred
- RID certification and/or a strong EIPA score are preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to adapt communication methods to meet diverse student needs
- Comfortable working with students from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds
This role involves working closely with two students—one elementary-aged and another to be determined—with the interview process helping to identify the best fit. The first interview will be conducted virtually with key school personnel to discuss placement details.
