Take on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as an ASL Language Facilitator and Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic, diverse urban school district near New Haven, CT. For the 2026-2027 academic year, two full-time positions (32.5 hours per week) are available: one working with a preschooler, and another with a 5th grade student. Your role will involve direct 1:1 support, tutoring, and facilitating comprehension of classroom materials, while helping to build students’ ASL vocabulary.

You will collaborate closely with educators to provide accessible learning and meaningful participation for students using American Sign Language. Initial interviews are virtual—meet with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf to discuss your background and student-age preferences for the best possible fit.

Key Qualifications:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language is required
  • RID certification and/or EIPA score are highly desired, but not mandatory
  • Previous experience in a school setting is highly preferred
  • Ability to adapt communication styles for varying student ages (preschool and elementary)
  • Strong commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion within an urban educational environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and tutoring skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Delivering 1:1 ASL interpretation and language facilitation
  • Tutoring to ensure understanding of curriculum concepts
  • Expanding students’ ASL vocabulary
  • Collaborating with teachers and school staff to maximize student success
  • Maintaining a supportive and responsive presence for assigned student
