The primary assignment involves working closely with a preschool student, though the best fit may be determined during the interview process to match your background with student needs.
You’ll provide essential language access, tutor key concepts, and help build ASL vocabulary—ensuring your student truly comprehends classroom material. The district values professionals who can foster a supportive learning environment and collaborate with educators to empower students.
Skills & Experience Sought:
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and/or Paraprofessional, preferably in a school setting
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- RID certification and/or EIPA score (preferred, but not required)
- Enthusiasm for contributing to the growth of ASL language skills
- Comfort working individually with students and adapting to various learning styles
- Commitment to working in a diverse, urban school community
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 ASL interpretation and tutoring to students (primarily in preschool, or as determined by best fit)
- Facilitate thorough comprehension of instructional content and classroom communication
- Support and enhance students’ ASL vocabulary and confidence
- Collaborate with educational staff to address individual student needs
