Soliant is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter/SLI to serve provided 1:1 support for an elementary student during the 2026-2027 school year near New Haven, IN

The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, and committed to helping students achieve their educational and communication goals while collaborating with the school team

Assignment Details:

Start Date: 26/27 NSY
Schedule: Full-time, On-Site School-Based
Setting:1:1 elementary student support

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for an elementary student in academic and school-related settings.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, peers, and staff.
  • Interpret classroom instruction and school-related activities accurately and professionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and applicable ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required by the district and employer.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience interpreting in a K–12 educational setting.
  • Experience providing 1:1 interpreting services for elementary-aged students.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education environments.
  • Experience adapting communication strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • National certification as a Sign Language Interpreter through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), such as NIC, or another nationally recognized interpreting credential accepted by the school district.
  • Compliance with all applicable Indiana state requirements for educational interpreters.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct and ethical interpreting practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
