Sign Language Interpreter in New Orleans, LA

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting high school students as a Sign Language Interpreter in the New Orleans metropolitan area. We're seeking an enthusiastic professional who thrives in a dynamic educational environment and is passionate about making a meaningful impact for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. This full-time role follows the school calendar with 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, running from ASAP through the end of May 2027.

Qualifications:

• EIPA score of 4.0 or higher (performance) and written exam completed
• Listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry – Dept. of Health)
• RID and NIC certifications accepted, but EIPA written still required
• Documentation of prior VOCO (virtual/remote interpretation) experience
• Experience interpreting for high school-aged students is a plus
• Ability to adapt to a caseload that may change throughout the year
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation services for high school students as assigned
• Support seamless communication between students, staff, and faculty
• Collaborate with educators to facilitate student engagement and participation
• Maintain professional confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards
• Manage a flexible schedule in alignment with the school calendar and student needs
• Attend meetings or training sessions as needed to support student success
