Key Qualifications:

• Valid VQAS Level 3 or higher, or EIPA score of 3.0 or above
• Professional background in educational settings, especially with young children
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL instructor preferred
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Ability to adapt interpreting strategies for a kindergarten classroom
• Preference for in-person interpreters; virtual interpreting not considered for this role

Your Responsibilities:

• Deliver one-on-one ASL interpreting for a kindergarten student, bridging communication between the student, peers, and educators
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support lesson accessibility and participation
• Assist in fostering an inclusive, language-rich classroom culture
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times
• Provide feedback on student’s communicative needs and progress as part of the educational team
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insight into language accommodations

This contract position runs from August 24, 2026, through June 9, 2027, offering 35 hours per week during the school year near Newport News, VA.
