Make an immediate impact by providing 1:1 sign language interpretation for students in a supportive educational setting near Norfolk, VA. This contract opportunity begins August 25, 2026 and runs through June 15, 2027, aligning with the academic calendar and offering a consistent, Monday through Friday schedule totaling 35 hours per week. You’ll primarily work with elementary-aged students, adapting to their individual needs and supporting their access to instruction and peer interaction throughout their school day.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for candidates with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher; applicants with a 3.0 or QAS score of 3 or better will also be considered
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings strongly preferred
- Comfort interpreting primarily for younger age groups (elementary level)
- Flexibility to be assigned across schools within the district as needed to ensure coverage
- Familiarity with Visaphonics is valued, though not mandatory
- Reliable, collaborative, and student-centered approach
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and fluid sign language interpretation in a 1:1 role for assigned students
- Support student communication during academic, extracurricular, and peer interaction activities
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Adapt to changes in location if the assigned student is absent, providing support in other district schools as directed
- Collaborate with educators and related service providers to maximize student participation
