Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Norfolk, VA

Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary-age students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a well-established school community near Norfolk, VA. This full-time contract opportunity runs from late August 2026 through mid-June 2027, providing consistent Monday through Friday hours. Interpreters serve directly with assigned students on a 1:1 basis, most likely in elementary settings. Flexibility is key: if a student is absent, interpreters may be deployed to other schools to provide coverage as needed.

Role Highlights:

• Deliver critical 1:1 sign language interpretation for elementary-aged students in a school environment
• Travel between schools within the district if needed for effective coverage
• Utilize Visaphonics as a mode of communication (preferred but not required)
• Collaborate daily with students and educational staff to ensure full access to the curriculum
• Maintain professional, confidential, and supportive relationships with both students and staff

Qualifications and Background:

• Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
• EIPA score of 3.5 preferred; candidates with a score above 3.0 or QAS 3+ will also be considered
• Experience working in schools or with children, ideally in a 1:1 interpreter role
• Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to varied educational settings
• Comfortable working full-time, Monday through Friday, with a flexible campus assignment
• Candidates must be available on-site; remote or hybrid arrangements are not permitted
