Bring your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) to a dynamic educational setting near Norfolk, VA! We're seeking a passionate and skilled professional for a full-time contract assignment, starting as soon as possible and continuing through June 11, 2027. This impactful role supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students by facilitating clear communication and enhancing their access to the educational curriculum.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in sign language interpreting within school environments
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and/or Teacher of American Sign Language
  • Certification: VQAS Level 2 or above, or EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
  • Familiarity with IEP processes and collaborating with educators, parents, and support staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity and fostering supportive learning environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person ASL interpretation for students during classroom instruction, group activities, and school events
  • Translate spoken lessons and communications into sign language, ensuring accessibility and comprehension
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to adapt and clarify instructional content
  • Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs as related to communication needs
  • Support students in both academic and social settings, encouraging participation and confidence
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
