Key Experience & Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent)
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a clear understanding of interpreting protocols in educational environments
- Previous experience working in K-12 schools or with children preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, students, and support staff
- Professional discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity to the communication needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Flexibility and adaptability within a dynamic learning environment
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language for students, teachers, and staff within classrooms and other school-related activities
- Facilitate effective communication during lessons, assemblies, and meetings
- Support students’ understanding of classroom content, assignments, and school routines
- Work closely with educators and support teams to ensure accessibility and participation for all students
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments, student progress, and communication needs
- Uphold professional interpreting standards and adhere to ethical guidelines
