Make a meaningful impact as an ASL Language Facilitator, supporting students in a vibrant and diverse educational community near Norwalk, CT. This full-time contract opportunity spans from August 27, 2026, to June 11, 2027, offering 32.5 hours per week. There are two openings, each offering a unique experience: one focused on working one-on-one with a preschooler and the other with a 5th-grade student. You'll provide targeted tutoring, facilitate full comprehension of class material, and help strengthen ASL vocabulary. As a language facilitator, you will collaborate closely with educators to ensure each student receives the tailored support they need to thrive.
Qualifications and Desired Background:
- Fluency in American Sign Language is essential
- Experience in a school setting is highly preferred
- RID certification or EIPA score are advantageous, but candidates demonstrating strong ASL proficiency will be considered
- Comfortable working individually with students of varying ages
- Ability to foster engagement and build rapport, adapting to students’ diverse backgrounds and developmental stages
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct 1:1 ASL support, reinforcing comprehension and vocabulary acquisition
- Collaborate with special education and deaf education professionals to align on student goals
- Adjust tutoring strategies to accommodate each learner’s pace and needs
- Encourage student participation and communication using ASL
- Document progress and share insights with teaching staff and administrators
