Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Norwalk, Connecticut

Step into a dynamic educational environment and make a meaningful difference as an ASL Language Facilitator supporting students in a diverse, urban school community. This full-time contract position (32.5 hours per week, ASAP through June 11th, 2027) offers the opportunity to work 1:1 with a preschool student—though the perfect match between your experience and student needs will be discussed in your initial virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf.

You will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing the educational experience of your assigned student, fostering comprehension and growth in both academic material and ASL vocabulary. This unique opportunity includes tutoring and tailored support, ensuring students bridge communication gaps and achieve their potential.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or Paraprofessional, ideally in K-12 or early childhood education
• Highly preferred background in school settings and working with students in diverse and urban communities
• RID certification and/or EIPA score strongly preferred (agency offers continuing education reimbursement to assist with obtaining credentials)
• Genuine passion for supporting student learning and communication
• Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to individual student needs

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 ASL interpretation and language facilitation for a preschool student (placement may be adjusted to best fit your background)
• Collaborate with teachers and educational specialists to foster student comprehension
• Support and enrich students’ ASL vocabulary and overall language development
• Offer tutoring and academic assistance as needed to ensure students grasp classroom materials
• Communicate effectively with staff, families, and students of all backgrounds
