Make a direct impact every day by providing one-on-one support to an elementary student who is deaf/hard of hearing. This contract opportunity is ideal for an ASL-fluent professional who enjoys using a hands-on approach to foster educational growth, build communication, and encourage social-emotional development. You’ll work closely with a bright young student who also has mild cognitive delays, ensuring she can fully access her classroom community and thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver consistent 1:1 support to your student throughout the entire school day, utilizing fluent ASL.
- Facilitate classroom instruction, routines, peer interaction, and staff communication through reliable sign language interpretation.
- Go beyond interpreting—actively break down, rephrase, and scaffold academic concepts to maximize understanding.
- Provide assistance with attention, engagement, redirection, transitions, and emotional regulation.
- Integrate visual supports such as schedules, First-Then boards, and sensory breaks as needed.
- Support the use of AAC devices or communication boards, helping the student express herself.
- Encourage the student’s participation, social skills development, and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, DHH specialists, speech/AAC providers, and IEP team members.
What We’re Looking For:
- Advanced fluency in American Sign Language—this is an essential requirement.
- Background in school or special education settings preferred.
- Knowledge of strategies to assist students who are deaf/hard of hearing considered a plus.
- Warm, patient, and encouraging demeanor; able to form strong, supportive relationships with children.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and adaptive support skills.
- EIPA or RID certification preferred but not required.
This role allows you to truly see and support the whole child—not just their academic needs. If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference for a student and her educational journey, we encourage you to apply today!
Compensation for this position ranges from $29.69 to $49.69. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
