Qualifications and Skills:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing students
• Ability to interpret in both one-on-one and group settings (classroom, meetings, assemblies)
• Valid interpreter certification (such as EIPA, RID, or state credential) is highly preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation between students, staff, and other school community members
• Facilitate classroom instruction, group activities, and school events by interpreting spoken language to ASL and vice versa
• Support students in both mainstream and specialized classrooms, promoting equal access to curriculum and participation
• Collaborate with teachers and service providers to ensure appropriate accommodations
• Contribute to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings when requested
• Maintain confidentiality and follow school and professional guidelines for interpreters
