A professional Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide clear and effective communication support for students and staff in educational settings. This role requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to accurately interpret between ASL and spoken English, facilitating meaningful learning experiences for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The position involves travel to various school locations within the Olympia, WA area, offering a dynamic work environment and opportunities to support diverse educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language for students in classroom, group, and individual settings
  • Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students, teachers, and staff during educational activities
  • Assist with visual and contextual cues to enhance understanding and learning
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
  • Travel to assigned schools and locations within the Olympia region as required
  • Collaborate with educational teams to support student success

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of deaf culture and educational terminology
  • Ability to manage travel logistics and maintain punctuality across multiple locations
