Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Paraprofessional in an elementary school setting. This contract role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact, working one-on-one with a Deaf student. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, following the school calendar.
Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 2.5 or higher or a degree in interpreting plus demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language
- Ability to interpret expressively and receptively, as assessed during the interview process
- Experience working in K-12 or similar student-centered environments preferred
- Professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for a Deaf elementary school student throughout the school day
- Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and school staff to ensure equal access to educational material
- Support the student's participation in classroom activities, lessons, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to address the student's academic and social-emotional needs
- Maintain accurate records of services and report on student progress as needed
- Engage in ongoing communication with the educational team regarding student needs or adjustments
