Step into a rewarding contract position supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing essential sign language interpretation services. This full-time opportunity offers approximately 30 hours per week, with a consistent schedule of six hours per day during the school year. Your expertise will play a vital role in creating an inclusive educational environment for elementary and intermediate students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf OR
  • Achievement of a 4.0 or above on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or the NAD/ACCI assessment
  • Consideration given to those with an EIPA under 4.0 (these candidates will be referred to as ASL Paras)
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language, with experience facilitating communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and the wider school community
  • Ability to interpret in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign formats
  • Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an educational setting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate real-time communication and understanding among students, peers, teachers, and school personnel
  • Assist students in academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math, as well as supporting vocational and independent living skills development
  • Monitor and support students during classroom, outdoor, and community activities
  • Adapt support based on students’ changing needs and levels, with settings in elementary and intermediate schools (placement preference will be considered)
