With several contract-based roles available, there’s flexibility for professionals seeking both short-term and long-term assignments. Your expertise in sign language interpretation will play a vital role in helping deaf and hard-of-hearing students fully participate in their educational journeys.

Current assignment options include:

  • First semester leave of absence (highest priority): August 20 to December 18, 8:00 am – 3:10 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
  • Short-term leave of absence: August 20 to October 30, 8:00 am – 3:10 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
  • Full-time role at East View Academy: 7:45 am – 2:45 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
  • Full-Time FLOAT Interpreter servicing DHH students district-wide: 8:45 am – 3:45 pm, supporting service minutes (Occupational Therapy, Social Work, etc.) and providing substitute coverage as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven ability to interpret in educational settings
  • Prior experience working with students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) is strongly preferred
  • National or state interpreter certification or eligibility required
  • Ability to collaborate with instructional staff and adapt interpreting to meet specific student needs
  • Professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clear, accurate interpretation for classroom activities, service-related sessions, and school events
  • Foster student engagement and access to curriculum through effective communication
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
  • Provide support for service minutes and substitute for interpreter absences as needed
