Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to make a meaningful impact as a dedicated interpreter for a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student. This contract role offers the opportunity to support one student in an educational environment, fostering both academic success and social integration. You'll work closely with school staff and be a vital resource for ensuring clear communication throughout the school day.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or completion of relevant interpreter training
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience working in school settings or supporting DHH individuals is highly valued
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in daily interactions
  • Commitment to punctuality and reliability, with a consistent schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct 1:1 interpreting services for a DHH student from 7:45am to 2:45pm each school day (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
  • Accurately interpret classroom lessons, discussions, activities, and peer interactions
  • Facilitate access to all instructional content and educational experiences
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure the student’s needs are met both academically and socially
  • Support the student’s participation in school routines and special activities
  • Adapt interpreting style and techniques to fit diverse learning environments
