Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Overland Park, Kansas

Step into a meaningful contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter, working directly with a 4th-grade student who is a new ASL learner. This full-time assignment runs from now through May 21, 2027, with the possibility of extending into the ESY period. You'll be an essential bridge in the educational experience of an eager young student, fostering communication and learning in a supportive school setting. Your work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., allowing you a consistent schedule and evenings free.

Key Qualifications:

• Licensed as a Sign Language Interpreter through the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing (KCDHH)
• Experience in educational settings, especially with elementary-aged children, is highly preferred
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Ability to adapt and support students at the beginning of their ASL journey
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Dependable, punctual, and flexible professional attitude

Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and peer interactions for a 4th-grade student
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff to ensure full access to curriculum and school community
• Support student’s development in ASL, fostering independence and learning confidence
• Maintain accurate records and comply with all confidentiality and professional standards
• Adapt interpreting strategies as the student’s skills advance throughout the school year
