Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Owings Mills, Maryland

This contract opportunity offers a consistent schedule of 35 hours per week in a dynamic elementary setting near Owings Mills, MD. While the student is not hearing impaired, your fluency in ASL will bridge communication and foster inclusion, making a real difference in the classroom.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
• Ability to effectively support young learners in academic, social, and emotional contexts
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Collaborative spirit for working with teachers, staff, and families
• Familiarity with the unique needs of language facilitation for non-traditional ASL users

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear and effective communication between the student, peers, and school personnel
• Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom activities, lessons, and social interactions
• Support the student's understanding of curriculum content, classroom routines, and social cues
• Partner with educators to develop strategies that align with the student's learning goals
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
• Adjust interpreting style to suit the student's individual strengths, communication patterns, and developmental needs
