Step into a meaningful career supporting student communication and access as a School-Based Sign Language Interpreter. This dynamic contract opportunity offers three full-time positions across middle and elementary school settings, working directly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Openings are available for immediate start and extend through late May 2027.

You’ll play a vital role in facilitating classroom learning, ensuring equal access, and supporting the success of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Whether working in a middle school program or within elementary mainstream and self-contained settings, your interpreting skills will empower students daily.

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with an EIPA score of 3.5+ and ISBE certification, or a 3.0+ EIPA with IBSE approval
• Prior experience interpreting in a K-12 school environment, preferably with Deaf and Hard of Hearing programs
• Ability to work collaboratively within educational teams, adapt to diverse student needs, and maintain confidentiality
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Flexibility to work full-time, 35 hours per week, with consistent daily attendance

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear communication between students, educators, and peers through sign language interpretation
• Support students in classroom settings—middle school Deaf and Hard of Hearing program, elementary mainstream, and self-contained classes
• Accurately interpret lessons, discussions, and activities to ensure full participation
• Consult regularly with teaching staff to foster an inclusive and accessible learning atmosphere
• Follow ethical and professional guidelines adopted by educational interpreters
