A position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students and staff in an educational setting located in Peoria, IL. This role involves travel assignments, providing vital communication access to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within various school environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, classmates, and school personnel.
  • Interpret spoken English into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to enhance learning accessibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
  • Travel between assigned school locations as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Previous experience as a school-based sign language interpreter is highly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret accurately in dynamic educational settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to travel to multiple school sites within the Peoria area.
