Make a meaningful impact in educational settings by providing essential communication support as a Sign Language Interpreter. Multiple opportunities are available for skilled interpreters seeking contract roles, with immediate needs throughout the first semester—and excellent prospects for longer-term placement. You’ll work closely with students and staff, facilitating full participation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners across several school environments.
Openings include:
- Leave of absence coverage at a junior high campus: August 20 – October 30 or August 20 – December 18 (highest priority). Schedules run weekdays, 8:00am–3:10pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
- Full-time placement at a dedicated alternative academy, 7:45am–2:45pm, weekdays with a 30-minute lunch.
- Full-time floating role supporting students district-wide, 8:45am–3:45pm, focused on interpreting for service minutes (including OT and Social Work sessions) and covering interpreter absences as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting highly preferred.
- Adaptability to adjust between assignments or locations as needed.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate interpretation between students, staff, and peers.
- Ensure access to instruction and school activities for DHH students.
- Collaborate with educators and service providers for seamless support.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professionalism in all interactions.
- Flexibility to adjust work assignments based on evolving student needs.
