Empower students and foster meaningful communication as a Sign Language Interpreter in area schools. Multiple contract roles are now available, each offering the chance to support students in a collaborative educational environment. Your fluency in American Sign Language will facilitate access to learning and educational success for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Current opportunities include:

  • Full-time placement (35 hours/week) with a middle school population.
  • Part-time assignment (20 hours/week) at the high school level.
  • Full-time opening (35 hours/week) serving elementary students.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with ISBE certificate, or 3.0+ EIPA with ISBE approval.
  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within K-12 educational settings.
  • Excellent command of American Sign Language and spoken English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with educators, students, and families.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards in educational interpreting.
  • Flexibility to thrive in dynamic school environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate, age-appropriate interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language for students and school staff.
  • Support students’ access to instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with general and special education teams to adapt to changing classroom needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow ethical guidelines for educational interpreting.
  • Assist in promoting an inclusive and accessible learning atmosphere.
