Sign Language Interpreter in Port Wentworth, GA

This opportunity is for a full academic year, supporting a student who uses a wheelchair and requires comprehensive interpreting services. The position is a contract role, working onsite at a dedicated local school, directly supporting educational access under parental preference guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and prior experience as a sign language interpreter in a school setting
• EIPA score of 3.5 or above (candidates with a lower score may be considered with further discussion)
• Demonstrated ability to adapt communication styles for students with varying needs
• Experience supporting students in special education and/or adaptive classroom environments is strongly preferred
• Commitment to providing onsite services (virtual work is not an option)
• Strong professionalism, communication, and collaboration skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality sign language interpretation for a high school student in an adaptive classroom throughout the school day
• Facilitate communication between student, teachers, service providers, and peers
• Provide compensatory services where appropriate, ensuring the student’s full participation and access to the curriculum
• Collaborate with special education faculty and support staff to tailor services to individual needs
• Uphold confidentiality laws and best practices in all settings
