Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Portage, Indiana

Step into a dynamic contract opportunity supporting a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student in a rewarding educational setting. Utilize your skills as a Sign Language Interpreter to make a meaningful impact, working one-on-one with a student at a Head Start Center. This role offers the chance to facilitate communication, nurture growth, and advocate for student success within an inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct interpretation services for a DHH student in a classroom setting
• Foster clear communication between the student, classmates, and educational staff
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to address the student’s academic and social needs
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting interactions
• Document and relay observations relevant to student progress to the appropriate team members

Desired Qualifications:

• Current Educational Interpreter Permit
• Proof of high school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of Human Trafficking and Child Abuse/Neglect Training
• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and interpreting in school settings
• EITHER:
  • Successful completion of the EIPA written assessment and a minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA skill test
  • OR: Proof of RID Certification
• Experience providing 1:1 support to DHH students preferred

This contract position is structured for 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, giving you the benefit of consistent hours and the satisfaction of seeing your impact every day.
