Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Portage, Wisconsin

In this position, you will provide interpretive services throughout the school day, ensuring smooth communication and an inclusive learning experience for a middle school child. Your schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:40 am to 3:30 pm, totaling 37.5 hours per week, keeping your evenings and weekends free.

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); strong receptive and expressive skills
• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (or eligibility according to state requirements)
• Prior experience working with school-aged children, ideally in a K-12 educational setting
• Collaborative mindset and the ability to work alongside teachers, support staff, and families
• Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain professional boundaries with students and staff

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one interpretive services in various academic settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
• Facilitate communication between students, peers, and educators
• Support classroom learning by interpreting instructions, lessons, and discussions
• Assist with note-taking and clarification as needed to promote understanding
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and professional standards for interpreters
