Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an academic or educational setting
  • National or state interpreting certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) preferred
  • Understanding of IEP processes and accommodation needs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills to interact with students, educators, and families
  • Adaptability to diverse learning environments and grade levels

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreting services to facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers
  • Support accessibility in classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities as required
  • Assist educators by interpreting directions, lessons, and feedback for assigned students
  • Foster a supportive, respectful atmosphere that encourages student participation
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accurate interpretation at all times
  • Stay informed about best practices and continuing education relevant to school-based interpreting
