Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough knowledge of interpreting best practices
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational environment
- Ability to facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and staff
- Commitment to ethical interpreting and adherence to confidentiality standards
- Hold applicable state and/or national interpreter certifications as required
- Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to diverse classroom environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instructions, discussions, and activities faithfully and fluidly
- Bridge communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and peers, teachers, or administrators
- Collaborate with educational teams to support student access and engagement
- Prepare as needed for lessons or special school events to ensure interpreting accuracy
- Foster a supportive, equitable learning environment through professional and culturally responsive communication
- Maintain accurate records as required by the assignment
