Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of Deaf culture
  • Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL teacher in educational settings is strongly preferred
  • Hold relevant interpreter certification(s) or have completed interpreter training
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
  • Solid organizational skills and the flexibility to adapt to varied classroom needs
  • Compassionate communication style and commitment to student success

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom discussions, instructions, and activities between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and their teachers or peers
  • Provide one-on-one or small group ASL instruction as needed for students or staff
  • Ensure accurate, confidential, and effective communication for all assigned students
  • Support students’ access to the curriculum, classroom participation, and social integration
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to student progress planning when necessary
  • Foster a positive, respectful environment that encourages educational growth
