An exciting contract opportunity awaits for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter passionate about supporting early childhood education. This role focuses on facilitating accessible learning for a 4-year-old PreK student who is medically fragile, providing vital communication support within a nurturing school environment. Located in a vibrant community near Ravenna, OH, this assignment is set to begin the second week of August and will cover the entire 26/27 school year.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate sign language interpreting services for a medically fragile 4-year-old PreK student during classroom activities and interactions.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, therapists, and nursing staff to adapt communication strategies for a student with a vent and trach.
- Foster inclusion and engagement, ensuring the child can actively participate in all aspects of their educational experience.
- Maintain strict professionalism and confidentiality in all student-related matters.
- Assist educators and staff in developing and using basic sign language to enhance communication across the learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Current certification or credentials in Sign Language Interpreting, in line with state and educational requirements.
- Experience supporting young children in educational settings, especially those with complex or medical needs.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Comfort working with students requiring specialized medical support, such as ventilators and tracheostomies.
- Ability to commit to a schedule of 4 hours per day, 4 days a week throughout the school year.
