Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to accurately interpret spoken language for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school environment preferred
- Understanding of the unique communication and educational needs of adolescent learners
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Possession of credentials or certification as required by state standards for educational interpreters
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, encouraging atmosphere
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for a middle school student
- Facilitate clear communication between student, peers, and faculty in both academic and non-academic settings
- Support the student’s social interactions and participation in all school functions
