Share your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter working directly within a dynamic school environment, supporting a high school student in an adaptive classroom setting. This contract position spans the academic year from early August 2026 through late May 2027 and entails a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours a week. The role is entirely onsite to accommodate both parent preferences and the student’s needs—virtual participation is not an option.

In this position, you'll make a meaningful impact by providing comprehensive communication services to a student who uses a wheelchair, ensuring inclusive access to all educational activities and classroom interactions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school settings
  • Valid interpreting credential with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (applicants with a lower score may be considered through further discussion)
  • Skilled in working with students with special needs, particularly in adaptive or SPED environments
  • Strong ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and other professionals
  • Adaptable and respectful of family and student input regarding support preferences

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate direct communication between the student, peers, and staff during instructional and school-related activities
  • Implement best practices for interpreting services specific to special education settings
  • Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation for academic content, classroom directions, and social interactions
  • Collaborate with the educational team to tailor support strategies
  • Ensure access to enrich the educational experience and foster an inclusive atmosphere
