Support an energetic and motivated 9th-grade student as a Sign Language Interpreter in a high school setting, contributing to both academic and extracurricular success. This impactful, onsite contract opportunity focuses on facilitating communication, fostering inclusion, and empowering student achievement. The assignment primarily covers Fridays for 6.5 hours each week, with commitment through May 27, 2027.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct sign language interpretation for a single high school student during classroom activities, school events, and academic support periods
  • Collaborating closely with teachers and staff, ensuring effective use of assistive listening devices (ALD) and supporting the student’s use of a Cochlear Implant
  • Assisting with interpreting during extracurricular activities, including theater rehearsals and performances
  • Supporting the student as he advances academically, particularly in reading and algebra
  • Maintaining confidentiality and fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment
  • Adhering to professional standards and ethical guidelines required for educational interpreters
  • Documenting student progress and communicating relevant information to staff as needed

Qualifications:

  • Active license as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Experience in educational settings, preferably working with high school students
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to encourage and motivate students
  • Proficiency using assistive listening technology in conjunction with interpreting
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to fostering student growth
