Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
- Minimum of a high school diploma; relevant postsecondary training preferred
- Proven expertise in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience supporting students in a school setting is highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL for a high school student during classes, extracurricular activities, and school events
- Support student engagement and comprehension across various subjects, adapting interpretation as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and educational teams to foster an inclusive learning environment
- Assist with note-taking or clarification when necessary to ensure complete access to instructional content
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting sessions and student progress
- Uphold ethical standards and best practices for educational interpreting at all times
