Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills
  • Previous experience working in educational environments is preferred
  • Ability to facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and school personnel
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and related best practices
  • Current applicable certification or licensure (as required by state regulations)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom and school-wide interpreting services for students and staff
  • Accurately interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English
  • Support students’ full participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with educators and administration to ensure seamless communication access
  • Uphold confidentiality and act as a professional linguistic and cultural mediator
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as needed to remain updated on protocols
