Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a proven ability to interpret in educational environments
- Prior experience interpreting for children or young adults is highly desirable
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as RID, EIPA, or equivalent) preferred
- Excellent listening and communication abilities
- Adaptability and professionalism when navigating diverse classroom and school situations
- Collaborative mindset with willingness to work alongside teachers, staff, and families
Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities using appropriate sign language methods
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Support student engagement by ensuring comprehensive access to educational material and social interactions
- Function as a resource for staff regarding best practices when communicating with students who use sign language
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all school policies regarding student privacy
- Occasionally participate in meetings, school events, or extracurricular activities as needed
