Step into an impactful contract role supporting elementary students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026/27 school year. This full-time opportunity offers you the chance to work one-on-one and in classroom settings with K-5th grade students, making a meaningful difference each day. Your expertise in sign language interpretation will help ensure every student has access to a rich and inclusive educational experience.

Qualifications we’re seeking:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various sign systems and modes
  • Experience interpreting in educational or school-based environments, especially at the elementary level
  • National or state interpreter certification preferred (RID, EIPA, or similar credentials)
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for facilitating student engagement
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, special education teams, and families

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpreting services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing throughout the school day (7:30 am – 3:00 pm; 35 hours weekly)
  • Support communication between students, teachers, and peers in classroom instruction, activities, and school events
  • Adapt signing style to match student language levels and individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and staff interactions
  • Participate in team meetings to support student accessibility and inclusion
