Qualifications we’re seeking:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various sign systems and modes
- Experience interpreting in educational or school-based environments, especially at the elementary level
- National or state interpreter certification preferred (RID, EIPA, or similar credentials)
- Strong communication skills and a passion for facilitating student engagement
- Ability to collaborate with educators, special education teams, and families
Key responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpreting services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing throughout the school day (7:30 am – 3:00 pm; 35 hours weekly)
- Support communication between students, teachers, and peers in classroom instruction, activities, and school events
- Adapt signing style to match student language levels and individual education plans (IEPs)
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and staff interactions
- Participate in team meetings to support student accessibility and inclusion
