Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with formal interpreting experience in educational settings preferred
- Certification or licensing in sign language interpreting
- Ability to interpret for students, teachers, and staff across grades and subject areas
- Familiarity with IEPs and strategies for accessible instruction
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and a passion for student advocacy
- Experience teaching or assisting with American Sign Language courses is an asset
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assemblies, and extra-curricular activities
- Facilitate effective communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and hearing peers, faculty, and staff
- Work in partnership with educators to adapt lessons for accessibility
- Maintain confidentiality in all student interactions
- Participate in team meetings, contributing insights that support educational and communication goals
