Make a difference in a student’s educational journey by providing essential communication access as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting. This contract opportunity allows you to utilize your expertise while supporting a high-school student’s academic and social experience.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); fluent interpreting skills.
- Minimum 4.0 EIPA score required for Minnesota; candidates with slightly lower scores and substantial experience may also be considered.
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred.
- Ability to collaborate with educators, staff, and students to foster a supportive and accessible learning environment.
- Strong ethical standards and professionalism in confidential educational situations.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate real-time ASL interpretation for a high-school student from 8:15am to 3:05pm daily, ensuring access across all classroom activities and relevant school interactions.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to fit classroom content, group discussions, lectures, and extracurricular activities.
- Work closely with teaching faculty and related service providers to support the student’s individual education plan and foster full participation.
- Clearly convey spoken information into ASL and communicate the student’s contributions to the broader class.
- Exhibit cultural competency and sensitivity to support the student’s independence and integration with peers.
