In this contract role, you’ll work closely with two elementary school students to bridge communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) individuals and their hearing peers and educators. Your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) facilitates access and inclusion, creating a supportive environment for learning and social participation.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Sign Language Interpreter licensure required
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience interpreting in school, educational, or community contexts preferred
  • Thorough understanding of interpreter code of ethics and maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and families
  • Professional, punctual, and responsive to student needs
  • Resume must be available at time of presentation

Position Details:

  • Contract assignment spanning the academic year from August 2026 to May 2027
  • Location: Kansas City, KS area, supporting students at the elementary level
  • 37.5 hours per week, providing consistent in-person interpreting services
  • Facilitate clear, accurate communication between D/HH students and hearing individuals
  • Translate spoken English to ASL and ASL to English across classroom activities and interactions
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and adhere to professional standards at all times
  • Support student participation in both academic and extracurricular settings
