Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficient in sign language interpretation within educational or youth environments
- Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools is highly desirable
- Ability to interpret both signed and spoken communication clearly and accurately
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and accessibility best practices
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID, EIPA, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Professionalism, reliability, and an empathetic approach to student support
- Flexibility and positive attitude when adapting to various classroom situations
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation services for an 8th-grade student during all class activities, lessons, and school events
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure the student fully accesses curriculum and instructional material
- Accurately interpret instructions, discussions, and presentations between teachers, peers, and the student
- Support the student’s social interactions and participation in extra-curricular activities when appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies regarding student information and interpretation services
- Participate in team meetings and contribute insights regarding student progress and communication needs
