What We’re Looking For:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpretation accuracy
- Previous experience working in a school or educational environment
- Ability to interpret in both classroom and one-on-one settings
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent) preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism
- Flexibility to adapt interpreting style to various age groups and learning abilities
- Collaborative attitude for working closely with teachers, support staff, and students
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation between spoken English and ASL for students, faculty, and parents
- Support access to classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and meetings
- Foster understanding and participation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in interpreting
- Assist educators in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) as needed
- Offer guidance on Deaf culture awareness to school staff when appropriate
