Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. As a dedicated interpreter, you will play a pivotal role in creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This on-site position runs Monday through Friday for 37.5 hours weekly, from August 10, 2026, through May 27, 2027.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in the state of North Carolina
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and relevant interpreting techniques
- Prior experience in educational settings preferred, especially within K-12 schools
- Strong communication, professionalism, and a commitment to fostering student success
- Ability to collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and families
- Must be available to work on-site for the full duration of the contract
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussion, and extracurricular activities for assigned students
- Adapt and convey spoken and written communication to ASL for various academic subjects
- Support real-time communication between students, staff, and peers
- Ensure confidential and culturally appropriate interactions at all times
- Assist with IEP meetings, assessments, and related documentation as needed
