Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Stamford, Connecticut

Seeking a dedicated ASL Language Facilitator to provide essential support to students in an urban school setting near Stamford, CT. This full-time contract opportunity runs from ASAP through June 11th, 2027, totaling 32.5 hours per week. You’ll work closely with a preschool student—or possibly another student, placing you where your experience benefits the students most. In this 1:1 role, you’ll have the chance to tutor, foster comprehension of class material, expand the student’s ASL vocabulary, and facilitate communication and inclusion within the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with fluency in interpreting and facilitating communication
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and/or Paraprofessional, especially in school environments
• Background working with diverse populations in educational settings
• Strong preference for candidates with RID certification and/or EIPA score (or willingness to pursue certification)
• Commitment to building students’ ASL vocabulary and supporting academic access
• Ability to adapt communication style and approach to individual student needs

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 ASL support to a designated student, partnering with educators and support staff
• Ensure comprehension of classroom materials through direct interpretation and tutoring
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop strategies for student success
• Encourage language development, helping students gain confidence and maximize their ASL proficiency
• Participate in a virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf to match you to the ideal student and age range
