Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and fluency in interpreting between ASL and English
  • Certification from a recognized interpreting body is preferred
  • Experience working in schools or with children/adolescents is highly valued
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to adapt to various learning environments and communication styles
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and teachers, peers, or staff
  • Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and meetings as needed
  • Assist in preparing and understanding classroom materials and resources for students
  • Collaborate with educators and support personnel to ensure effective accommodations are provided
  • Provide feedback and contribute to individualized education plans (IEPs) when appropriate
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and adhere to school policies
